欧洲的早期音乐教育，起源于著名的达尔克罗兹的节奏教学和奥尔夫的综合艺术教学，发展到今天，成为名叫节奏音乐教学的早期音乐教学，内容包括有节奏、语言、律动、舞蹈、合奏等，目标放在孩子的全面发展上，而不再是单一的技能学习上。而奥尔夫教学在上世纪八十年代已派生出音乐治疗的学科。
